Research On Effects Of Eu TBT On Electromechanical Products Export Of China

With the development of economic globalization and trade liberalization, themeasures like customs duty, import-export quota and license are weakened due to theobvious trade discrimination. Because of the characteristics like flexibility, concealmentand rationality, technical barriers to trade (TBT) are gradually becoming the principal partof the current international trade barrier. European Union (EU) as China’s largest tradepartner is constantly setting this kind of barrier on the merchandise from China by takingthe technological and economic advantages, which has become a great obstacle to thenormal development of the Sino-European trade. As the mainstay of the Sino-Europeantrade, the export competitiveness of China’s electromechanical products to EU has beenseriously affected due to the existence of the EU TBT. Therefore, it can have greattheoretical and practical significance to make a deep research on the issues of EU TBT onelectromechanical products export of China.This thesis firstly reviews the past research literature on TBT (especially EU TBT)written by domestic and overseas scholars. Secondly, on the basis of the concept definitionof TBT and the game analysis of the cause, relative contents of EU TBT are described andconcluded. Moreover, detailed analysis of the influence of EU TBT on theelectromechanical products from China are made, combined with the status quo of theexports and the specific conditions of constant EU TBT on China’s electromechanicalproducts. It is found that in the short term this situation probably exert an negativeinfluence on the exports of China’s electromechanical products, but positive influence maybe created in the long term. On this basis, the gravity model is established to make theempirical test of the influence of EU TBT on the electromechanical products from China.The final conclusion is made that the EU TBT measure will have a negative impact onChina’s17class electromechanical products (including vehicles, aircraft, vessels andassociated transport equipment, etc.) at the present stage, causing a loss to China’s17classelectromechanical products. Moreover, this will prevent the progress to a certain extent.Finally, the countermeasures of EU TBT on China’s electromechanical products are proposed from the perspective of government, industry and enterprise by analyzing thereasons of China’s electromechanical products suffering EU TBT.
