In this paper,the analysis and structural optimization design of main structure of large lathes by mens of virtual prototyping is introduced.With the development and expansion of industrial construction, the demand for a high level of machine tool will become increasingly in the large manufacturing industry, and machine tool manufacturing industry will play an increasingly important role. But the low level of domestic machine tool manufacturing and poor accuracy of the status quo are common phenomena. Virtual prototyping is a very useful technique, which is used widely at home and abroad and developed rapidly. The paper establishes 3D model of existing vertical lathe, gantry lathe structure by UG,and finds out the weak link, and then re-design improvements by finite element analysis software(ANSYS /Workbench).According vertical lathe beams, columns and other major structures at the specific circumstances of the lathe work, the paper analyzes these structural features of supporting member, shape of a cross-sectional, and the arrangement of internal ribs, establishes 3D model of vertical lathe for beam structure, column structure, rotary worktable, bed, power boxes and several major structural parts, and analyzes the model established by finite element software ANSYS.The beam structure of the existing vertical lathe is improved, Dual-beam structure, the cutting spindle and turret placed into the middle of the two beams, and the beam of thermal expansion of the force and uneven deformation effectively. The pillar structure has been improved, and using concave configuration, putting beam in the concave structure column, which made the support of beams more stable, solves the problems of the post back caused by heat unevenly spread and heat balance. By analyzing the modal and static, beams improved had achieved the desired effect. Dynamic and static mechanics of the column, bed, table etc are analyzed. Through the dynamic analysis of the main working parts of large CNC lathe, the natural frequencies and mode shapes is obtain.Through the structural improvement of large vertical lathe, the structural strength of the lathe parts is enhanced;Due to the use of thermal equilibrium structure and symmetrical design, the force of the machine in machining is effectively reducd, thus the processing accuracy is also improved. By the design of lightweight bed, the overall weight is effectively reduced, and materials are saved. By finite element analysis, we can see deformed shape and maximum deformation region of the main structure of the machine tool under various loads. The weaknesses of the large CNC lathe structure are obtained, which provide the theoretical basis and support for further structural design optimization.
