The Study Of Qing Furniture Legs Carving Decoration Style

Qing Dynasty, with a period of nearly 300 years, is the last dynasty ruled by the minority of Chinese feudal history. Its influence on furniture is far-reaching and profound. In the early stage of Qing Dynasty, the furniture inherited the Ming style, but latterly, affected by many factors, it developed and run counter to another kind of style of Ming’s furniture type, thus, the decorative style of Qing Dynasty furniture legs has changed subsequently.Furniture leg is an indispensable part to functional component and art deco. It is also a remarkable symbol to distinguish different furniture styles in China. The modeling and decorations of Qing furniture legs is one of the highlight in local decorative function of Chinese furniture. This paper dwells on the modeling, decoration and craftwork of furniture legs with an in-depth excavation and research, intending to complete the blankness in local furniture functions, which will be of some guiding significance on the local recurrence of Chinese traditional furniture.Throughout the changes and development of Qing furniture, this paper roughly classifies Qing furniture into three categories, the Royal style, the Literate style and the Folk one. Grand Beijing and gorgeous Guangzhou furniture are the representatives in the royal style. The literate ones accounts for a small number of Scholars, which Suzhou furniture is the typical. Ningbo furniture, representing the folk style, can be listed in it too. The formation of the styles is closely linked to the social environment and humanities at that time. We can say that it was these three styles that drove the development of the furniture in Qing Dynasty. Therefore, this paper discusses the design of furniture legs decoration style, which is based on the three types. The focus of this paper mainly discusses the object on the decorative theme, decoration style, and decorative method of furniture legs.
