In the field of fire investigation the majority of the research was focus on the fuel or after-fire disaster test, there was little research on the study of the impact of combustion characteristic with combustion improver. And the combustion characteristic is a very important factor to the occurrence and development of fire process, is also the indispensable date for fire simulation. In this article, the gasoline and alcohol were used as the typical combustion improver, the ash, black wood, red oak and beech wood were used as four kinds of typical combustion, a cone calorimeter was used to test four wood’characteristic under different heat flux with different volume of addition. After experiment theoretical analysis and numerical simulation were used to compare the experiment data. This research may provide some theory and data for the field of fire research.After a brief introduction of theoretical model and the relevant calculation were derived, the experiment was conduct under five different radiation intensity with or without combustion improver and the different volume of combustion improver. The combustion characteristic such as heat release rate, mass loss curve, the residual of carbon, heat of combustion, effective heat of combustion and ignition time were summarized and analyzed. A lot of general rules were proposed. Such as there were two heat release rate peaks for all the wood, with the decrease of radiation power the amount of carbon residue was decrease, and the heat of combustion increase while the effective heat of combustion was reduce gradually, the ignition time was shorter and roughly relate to the square of the heat source. After adding the combustion improver, the peak of four kinds of wood turn to three, and the time of wood peak appearing shorter, the peak was small. With the combustion improver the mass loss curve and the heat and the effective heat of combustion almost the same as with no combustion improver. But the average carbon residual was reduced.At the same time, on the basis of programming language, the liquid evaporation loss and the temperature on the surface of wood were calculated. Combing with the experiment data, the relationship of ignition time and the radiation intensity was simulated. It turn out that the formula that considering the heat loss and absorption coefficient would be better applicability.
