In recent years, with the mining development and construction in China, rapid growth of the number of tailing, more and more people pay attention to the ways dealing safely with tailing and environment protection. To ensure the safety of tailing is important to the safe operation of tailing dams. Seismic activity is one of the most important factors that induce tailing dam accident, so the research on the dynamic response of tailing and engineering construction is particularly essential. Now existing academic achievement seismic dynamic response characteristics tailings is not deeply enough. Therefore, there is of great significance to study the stability of tailing dams affected by earthquake actions. Therefore, this paper based on the geological investigation report about the Xiangchong tailing dam that will be built and combined the simulation tests of hydraulic vibration system and numerical analysis methods of finite element, systematically and deeply research the characteristics of dynamic response and its influencing factors. In this paper, the results of main research are as follows:Based on the large hydraulic vibration system, the conclusions about the seismic dynamic responses of the physical simulation test are as follows:(1) the increase of moisture content has a certain effect on the dynamic response of the tailing. Especially, the influence on surface of beach and bottom of the slope is more obvious. (2) The dynamic responses have a negative correlation relationship with peak acceleration of the seismic wave. However, with the increase of peak acceleration, the decrease of dynamic response of tailing is not very obvious. (3) When seismic wave act on Y direction that is perpendicular to the initial dam, the dynamic responses is greater than that of the seismic wave that acts on X direction. (4) Because of a variety of effects with each other, among all monitoring point, the strongest point of dynamic responses is on the beach and is not at the top of beach.Based on the numerical simulation of finite element, the main conclusions are as follows:(1) the moisture content of tailing has obvious amplification effect on dynamic response of the tailing dam, which is consistent with the result of hydraulic vibration system experiment. With the increase of moisture content of tailing, the internal stress of tailing dam obviously increase and the shape of permanent displacement isoline are closer to the shape of the foundation slate on both sides. (2) It is easier to produce the phenomenon of stress concentration that appears bigger compressive tress and tensile stress and permanent displacement where tailing dam is in touch with foundation slate and initial dam. (3) The damping on the seismic response characteristics of tailing has a certain effect. If the damping is bigger, the permanent displacement and stress of tailing is larger which is not clearly obvious. (4) To some extent, the form of connection between tailing dam and foundation determines the permanent displacement and stress isoline of dynamic response.
