Titanium Alloy is a difficult-to-cut material. The study of profiling and processing to it is one of the important topics in the field of metal cutting. The existing research discovered that application of Micro-texturing technology on surface to the metal cutting tools is helpful to reduce the friction between the tool and chips, delay the abrasion and improve the tool’s cutting performance. Under the guidance of existing research to the tool with Micro-texturing, this essay focuses on the influence of Micro-texturing technology on surface to the tool’s cutting performance and abrasion property through analyzing the experiment that cutting the TC6 Titanium Alloy with the lubrication of cutting fluid.1, Design the configuration of Micro-texture with selecting the depth, diameter, the area occupancy of micro-pits and the distance between texture and main cutting edge as the elements. Then use the laser processing technology to deal with the micro-pits texture on the tool’s rake face. Meanwhile, introduce the process of making textured tool for testing.2,When cutting the TC6 by the untextured tool with lubrication of cutting compound, obtain what influences the cutting force most is the cutting depth while the cutting speed influenced least; what influences the surface toughness most is feed rate and the least is cutting depth.3,The tools with the appropriate surface texture could improve its cutting performance. The diameter and the area occupancy of the pits as well as the distance between texture and main cutting edge works together to reduce the tools’passive force and feed force. A shallower pit helps to store the cutting fluid to reduce the friction between the tool and chips, maintains the strength of the tool and improves the quality of the machined surface by avoiding the vibration of processing system.4, The flank wear of textured tool less than the untextured tool’s; The rake face of the textured tool near by the workpiece surface is badly worn while its corner radius and main cutting edge are less worn and more durable. With the cutting going on, the cutting fluid and bubble in the pits could reduce the friction and share the strength, as a result, each component of the cutting force will be decreasing. The main reasons of the tool wear are adhesive wear, chemical wear and diffusion wear. The tool with suitable textured configuration is able to avoid the adhesive wear. This paper aims at study the influence on cutting performance of PCBN tools with surface Micro-texture to cutting the TC6 Titanium Alloy. And the result demonstrates that the surface Micro-texture technology is able to improve the cutting performance of tools and tool life. This paper enriches the practical evidences for applying the surface Micro-texture technology to cutting the Titanium Alloy and paves the way to improve the cutting performance of PCBN tools. Its value for metal cutting is self-evident.
