Robust decision, which is an effective method to reduce products’ costs and improve products’ quality, is attached great importance to by more and more scholars at home and abroad and is widely used in engineering applications since its discovery in 1970 s.A company has the production line ofniobium pentaoxide, whose production technique is similar to its domestic peers. The company produces high-end products with high-end materials so as to lack market advantage in cost control. In order to reduce the products’ s cost forgreater competitiveness and corporate profit, A company plans to use low-end raw materials to produce high-end products. Therefore, the extraction process of Niobium solution, which is the most key process in niobium pentaoxide processes, should be reasonably optimized and improved to increase the tungsten elimination effect.Robust decision theory is used in this article to study the extraction process and optimize the process parameters so as to extend the range of the raw materials for the reduction of the produciton cost. The following five questions are covered in this article. 1)The current situation of the extraction process of Niobium solution is introduced and the factors affecting tungsten elimination effect are found out. 2) The theory and method about comprehensive quality management and robust decision is set forth to explain the applicability of robust decision for the extraction process of Niobium solution. 3)theexperiment is carried out with robust decision theory to optimize and improve the extraction process to find out the factors which remarkably affect the tungsten elimination effect so that the corresponding measures are adopted. 4) Bulk trials are carried out to validate robust decision so as to find out the suitable process parameters. By comparing the economic and technical index of the optimized and improved process with that of the original process, the comclusion is drawn that the robust decision is applicable for the extraction process of Niobium solution. 5) The weak points are put forward to define the research directions in the future.
