Because of the increasing demand for coal resources has resulted tight supply of domestic high-quality coal resources, thus China’s abundant low rank coal resources begin to be exploited. The larger water, lower heat and lower utilization rate of the low rank coal, thereby it is not suitable for long-distance transmission compared to highquality coal. So the low rank coal drying upgrading technology is gradually developed. The hot gas or superheated vapor direct drying method is mostly used for low rank coal drying upgrading technology at home and abroad. For example drum drying technology whose dust production amounts for drying process are large, coupled with the hot flue gas temperature which is high and has some oxygen, if operating parameters are unsuited, the system will be likely to occur combustion and explosion great danger. Therefore, studying the coal dust concentration distribution in the drum drying machine is beneficial to the safe operation of the drying process.According to the working principle of low rank coal drying upgrading technology, the way of combination of fluid dynamics theory and Fluent simulation software are used to obtain the flow field distribution, coal dust particle concentration and size distribution inside the drum dryers. The fluid domain is simulated and calculated when the variables are inlet temperature, precipitation rate, and drying time respectively. Thus the influence of these factors in coal dust particle concentration is gotten. The optimal parameter range is found according to the simulation results above mentioned, while some relevant measures of controlling coal dust hazards are put forward. According to these measures, the highly efficient coal drum drying technology and equipment of MGT series are applied for Maoshengquan coal company to dry the rich long flame coal reducing intrinsic water in long-flame coal effectively, as well as improving calorific value for the property of saving-loading-transporting. Because the system has a variety of monitoring, adjustable device, and dust removal equipment to ensure the safety and reliability of drying process. Therefore the production capacity can get up to 500 tons. The economic benefit is very high.
