Hoisting rope is one of the most important parts in the whole hoisting system which influence the production safety of mine, and wear is the most common failure mode. The wear of steel wire rope can directly lead to its scrap.The breaking force it can withstand is reduced as a result of the cross-sectional area of worn steel wire decrease. Meanwhile, the wear of steel wire rope will cause the reduction of its surface quality, lastly result in its fatigue fracture. In addition, the elasticity of steel wire rope will reduce because of its severe corrosion. Therefore, this paper carried out the research with the method of combining theory with experiment. First of all, the failure analysis of wire fracture was researched, then the influence of load and sliding speed on the wear of steel wire rope under different conditions was studied with the friction coefficient and wear rate as evaluation indexes. Then the wear mechanism of steel wire rope under different working conditions was revealed, and the corrosion wear of steel wire rope was analyzed. Theory and technical support are provided to reduce the wear of the steel wire rope, thereby prolong the service life of steel wire rope, and ensure the reliability of steel wire rope.In this paper, broken wires of steel wire rope was studied by fractureanalysis in which Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer was respectively used to observe the micro-morphology and analyze elements of the fracture surface of steel wire. Then the primary reason of broken wire during the use of steel wire rope was found out combined with the microstructure analysis of steel wire rope. The factors that will cause fatigue fracture, ductile fracture and brittle fracture of steel wire was explained. Two kinds of corrosion wear in the using process of steel wire rope were analyzed:oxidation wear and special medium corrosion wear. Lastly, Some suggestions were put forward about the problems that should pay attention to in the process of production and use of steel wire rope.The actual working condition of the wire rope was summarized, and the experimental parameters were determined. Composed friction pairing with 45 hardened steel and steel wire,the effect of surfing coating on the wear of steel wire under dry friction condition was studied. The results showed that galvanized steel wire have higher friction coefficient and wear rate in the same sliding speed, and the adhesive wear and plastic deformation were presented on the wear surface of steel wire; the wear rate of galvanized steel wire and smooth steel wire both decreased with the increase of sliding speed, and the wear rate of galvanized steel wire was greatly influenced by the sliding speed. At the same time, the wear characteristics of different steel wire rope produced by two manufacturers were studied. The result showed that the friction coefficients of the two kinds of steel wire both increased with the increase of load. The frictioncoefficient of specimen 1 decreased with the increase of sliding speed, and the wear rate of specimen 2 decreased with the increase of load, the wear rates of the two kinds of steel wire both decreased with the increase of sliding speed,and the wear rate of specimen 2 was greatly influenced by the sliding speed.The wear characteristics of steel wire under the lubrication of AMKE steel wire rope core oil and NYROSTEN N113 FS grease lubrication were studied,and the change rules of friction coefficient and wear rate of steel wire under the condition of oil lubrication and grease lubrication along with the load and sliding speed change were researched. The results showed that the friction coefficient and the wear rate of steel wire under oil lubrication and grease lubrication decreased significantly, and the worn surface morphology of steel wire was like "plough".Then the wear behavior of steel wire under water lubrication was studied. It was concluded that the worn surface morphology of steel wire under water lubrication was mainly like "plough", and the friction coefficient of steel wire decreased with the increase of sliding speed. The wear of liner and the external wear of steel wire rope were studied based on the friction pair composed of steel wire and liner and the results showed that the gap of liner’s wear rate between under dry friction and under grease lubricated condition increased with the increase of sliding speed.When the oil and grease was used for lubrication during the use of steel wire rope, not only the contact between the steel wire surface and the air or other corrosive medium can be cut off, but also the wear of steel wire rope can be reduced.
