At present, because of petrochemical resources exhausting and non-biodegradable material of chemical industry on the environment and the serious harm of the body, good biocompatibility and sources of the development and application of natural material received extensive attention of people. Alginate is a Marine algae extract sodium alginate as raw materials by wet spinning of a kind of biodegradable, hygroscopicity good, as well as good biological compatibility, can be widely used in medical dressings, cosmetics and other fields. Keratin is the main source is a kind of excellent biological compatibility, wide range of natural polymer materials. In this paper, human hair keratin solution is made by the dissolution of human hair, and mix it with sodium alginate, then made human hair keratin/calcium alginate blend fiber has wide application prospects through the wet spinning.The optimum condition of the preparation of keratin solution was concluded, a mass of human hair was processed with 0.4 mol/L NaOH according to a ratio of 1:15 at 80℃ for 3 h, its dissolution rate was above 90%. The greater the concentration of NaOH, the longer the reaction time, reaction temperature is higher, the dissolving rate of human hair is greater, after the dissolving rate of human hair above 90%, the increase rate tends to be gentle.The optimum condition of the preparation of human hair keratin/calcium alginate blend fiber was concluded, the dope let stand for 12 h, filter 2 times through the lawn and mesh, the spinneret hole number is 1000, pore diameter is 0.07 mm, the extrusion speed of dope thread is 0.02 m/s, concentration of coagulation bath is 4%, and the temperature is 30℃, the coagulation time of 25 s, stretching rate is 30%~50%,the blend fiber is obtained after drying by alcohol dehydration with soft handle, not sticky and the breaking strength is 2.64 cN/dtex.The infrared spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy had been used to characterize the structure and morphology of the blend fiber.These result showed that human hair keratin and calcium alginate had good compatibility.With the increase of human hair keratin,the grooves of the blend fiber increased and the moisture absorbing ratio was improved.The test of mechanical properties showed that the strength of the fiber was decreased from 3.8 cN/dtex to 2.64cN/dtex when the keratin content of blend fiber was increased from 10% to 50%.
