Safflower genus(Carthamus L.) belonging to the Asteraceae, located in Central Asia, widely seen in South-West Asia and the Mediterranean region. Safflower genus contains 18-20 kinds, there are two kinds in our country. In the main producing areas of safflower(Carthamus tinctorius L.)distributed in a number of areas, including Xinjiang and Henan, and the like. Safflower isan annual herb, height of about thirty centimeters, in yellow flowers, after the fade todark red. As in recent years, more and more people began to study the chemicalcomposition of the plant, safflower corresponding chemical composition has also been widespread concern.At present, the researches of safflower is more, ithas been isolated include quinoa chalcone flavonoid glycosides, alkaloids and polyacetylene type and other types of more than 104 compounds. Safflower are often eat, folk have Salvia safflower cook, Black beans saffrondrink, Safflowerwine, Safflower catfish, etc.In this study, using column chromatography(such as macroporous resin column, silica gel, MCI column, sephadex LH-20 column) and high performance liquid chroma tography, the structures of these compounds were elucidated by analysis of the physic o-chemical constants and the NMR data, follow-up study of safflower chemical compo sition, and identification of the structure of ten compounds. Among them compound 1is a new compound, the spectra analysis identified as Cathamutoside A, In addition ni ne known compounds, they were identified as Dihydro phaseicmethyl-4’-O-β-D- gluco side(2), Dihydro phaseic acidMethylester(3), BlumenolA(4), 2,6-dimethoxy-1-O-β-Dglucopyranoside(5), 3,4,5-Trimethoxy phenol(6), 3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenethyl alcohol(7), 4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzenepropionic acid(8), 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid(9), β-s itosterol(10), among them, compounds BlumenolA(4), 3,4,5-Trimethoxy phenol(6), 3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenethyl alcohol(7), 4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzenepropionic acid(8)were isolated from Carthamus tinctorius L for the first time.Safflower has a variety of pharmacologically active role. In this study, safflower each eluted fraction has been active tracking cardiac cytoprotective activity experiments. Embryonic rat myocardial cell lines H9c2 determined by MTT method, the results showed 10% and 30% of the macroporous resin elution part has good activity.After continue to track, found that 40% of ODS column, after another glucan LH-20 gel chromatography, elution of the sixth flow has the strongest activity, its effect than the positive control of salvia miltiorrhiza extract myocardial protection, deserves further research. At the same time, we have also to 10 compounds were isolated from the A549 human lung cancer cells poison activity test. The results showed that all compounds were on A549 human lung cancer cells showed significant cytotoxicity effect.In this paper the chemical compositions of the safflower, and myocardial protection and antitumor cytotoxic activity are studied, for safflower follow-up study provides experimental data and reference.
