With the development of rural economy in Jiangsu province and the rising of people living standard, carbon emissions caused by the residents living consumption become an important part and the new growth point of the total carbon emissions. As the main terminal unit of consumption of various economic activities, carbon emissions from rural households limit the standard of construction of new socialist countryside. But for a long time, our country makes policies for energy conservation and emission reduction just focused on industrial applications, lacking effective mitigation measures for residents’ consumption, especially for rural residents. Based on this, this paper study on the amount of carbon emissions and the driving factors of rural residents in Jiangsu province, in order to providing scientific basis for the establishment of policy and management measures to reduce carbon emissions.Through the research, this paper gets the following conclusion:1. From 1995 to 2013 direct energy consumption and CO2 emissions of rural residents in general is on the rise. The coal and power consumption is a main source of direct carbon emissions. Indirect emissions overall trend to fluctuate, and indirect carbon emissions per capita showed a trend of growth.2. Based on LMDI method, this paper study on the factors of CO2 emissions. The factors promoting the direct CO2 emissions are energy consumption occupies compared, energy consumption per unit of living space and the per capita living space;inhibition factors of the direct CO2 emissions are carbon intensity, energy prices, the number of family and family size. The factors promoting the indirect CO2 emissions are economic development level and the consumption structure; inhibition factors of the indirect CO2 emissions are indirect energy intensity, family population size and number of the family.3. Through the method of principal components, this paper evaluates direct and indirect CO2 emissions of rural resident life in Jiangsu province. In 1995-2013, direct CO2 emissions comprehensive evaluation score is rising on the whole, but has some volatility. Comprehensive evaluation score of indirect CO2 emissions is fluctuation change.4. Based on the grey system prediction method, this paper forecast analysis the direct and indirect carbon emissions of life in rural areas of Jiangsu province. During2014-2020, the direct carbon emissions of resident living will continue to rise sharply.By 2020 this amount will reach 42.0052 million tons. The rise of the indirect carbon emissions will appear smooth. By 2020, indirect emissions will reach 22.3997 million tons.5. In direct carbon emissions, the key to cutting emissions is to optimize energy structure and improve the resident environmental awareness. In indirect carbon emissions, the key to reduce energy intensity is to increase energy efficiency and reduce the wasteful consumption.
