Along with the swift development of the freeway of our country, freeway traffic accidents also submit the tendency that goes up year by year. According to statistics, in freeway traffic accidents, near 1/3 is caused by vehicle impacting with guardrail, every year people who died on freeway takes the 67% of total people died in traffic accidents, it is more than 16 times of ordinary freeway. Therefore, analyzing crash compatibility between vehicle and barrier and studying occupant protection has aroused a greater concern in states all over the world. Large amounts of research on vehicle-barrier crash have been done in many developed countries in American and Europe and some achievements were obtained. In China, however, such work just starts from scratch, particularly for the vehicle-intermittent concrete barrier.Intermittent concrete barrier is a form of barrier which is widely used on mountain highway. It is found that when the car has a crash with the intermittent concrete barrier, the wheels are blocked by the concrete, even the right front wheels are completely scraped off fence by the concrete barrier. Not only the cab deformation, but the head and chest of the dummy suffered severely impact. So it has great practical significance to have a study for the crash compatibility of car and intermittent concrete barrier.This paper firstly has taken a brief analysis of traffic accident on China and the development characteristics of intermittent concrete barrier, and made a general statement on the car crash energy absorption device and the absorption principle, then it taken a conclusion that traditional crushing-type could have been far from satisfying the security requirements of modern car crash.Then this article has carried out a detailed discussion for the collision energy absorption status of the thread cutting device and the collision between the car with thread cutting device and the intermittent concrete barrier. At the same time it has introduced passenger’s injury mechanism in the course of collision.This paper has established thread shear collision energy absorbing device finite element model and car model and intermittent NJ-type barrier model based on VPG software, which is specifically designed for the automotive collision, using general-purpose finite element program LS-3DYNA for post-processing to have a nonlinear dynamic analysis. From three perspectives which is people and vehicles and road (NJ-type barrier). It has analyzed the collision process and the biomechanical response of the crew by different initial conditions on car collision with highway concrete barrier, systematic studied the car collisions with the intermittent highway concrete barrier with and without the thread cutting device, from which, we have drew some valuable conclusions, which offered reference for structural optimization of concrete barriers and improvement of vehicles in the future.Finally, this article has summarized dynamic characteristics of the vehicle with and without the thread cutting device and passenger in the course of vehicle-freeway concrete guardrail collision, and has put forward some problems that met in research course; at last it made a prospect for the research goal in the future.
