Semi-submersible drilling platform is a superior-diffculty and high-technology project inthe shipbuilding and marine engineering industry. In the construction process of the semi-submersible platform, all sorts of equipments, tube systems, cable outfitting have hightechnical requirements.How to use the limited area and equipment resources of the shipyardto install all kinds of equipments,pipings and cables, which cost designers a great deal ofeffort, and often appear all sorts of mistakes. Along with the popularization and developmentof computer aided technology in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry, virtualsimulation technology provide effective solutions for this problem. Based on the virtualsimulation technology, engineers can build a virtual model and simulate the building processin computer virtual environment. Which has a certain extent to reduce the waste materials andrework phenomenon, reduce production cost, improve the production efficiency, has animportant role in guiding the implementation.Firstly,this topic analyzes the framework of virtual assembly system,study virtualassembly and its key technologies including virtual modeling,virtual proeess planning,virtualpath planning and collision detection. Secondly,collect the research status of the virtualassembly technology domestic and overseas. Thirdly,introduce the installation process ofthruster in semi-submersible platform. Divide which into four parts including preparation,installation on the ocean bottom, installation on the sea and follow-up work.In order to combine virtual assembly theory and engineering case.To begin with,thistopic study the definition of virtual assembly model and use CATIA software to create virtualmodels including component models, equipment models and environment models.Secondlyanalyze the theory of virtual process planning and virtual path planning,then import the virtualmodels into DELMIA software to test and verify the installation process simulation.Thirdly,study the theory of collision detection,introduce static interference and dynamic collision.Finally use DELMIA software output collision detection reports,installation process listtree,GANT picture and virtual simulation video.The simulation results is greatly valuable inengineering production.
