In the design and manufacture process of the complex electromechanical products, assembly is the important link. The performance of the product is greatly influenced by the assembly quality. The assembly costs account for a large proportion of manufacturing costs. Therefore, in the design phase and assembly planning stage of the product, pre-assembly and assembly process analysis has a very important significance to improve product quality and reduce production costs.Traditional assembly process planning for complicated electromechanical products requires plenty of physical mock-up trials to verify designs because of their complicated structures and large number of components. Meanwhile papery process files are difficult to express complex assembly process clearly. As is stated above, the problem leads to long assembly cycle and high cost, so traditional assembly process planning can’t satisfy the agile manufacturing requirement of enterprise. Virtual assembly technology is a new approach to solve the problem, based on the DELMIA simulation platform, the main research work is illustrated in the following aspects:First, the modeling method of rigid body parts and flexible cable are studied, and one modeling ideology of rigid-flexible mixed associated based on the assembly process simulation is proposed.Second, in order to solve the assembly sequence optimization problem, the shortcoming of the Simple Genetic Algorithm (SGA) is researched and an Improvement Genetic algorithm (IGA) is proposed to solve those problems. Practicality of improved genetic algorithm was validated by comparison with some intelligent algorithm such as Simple Genetic Algorithm (SGA) and ant colony algorithm.Third, the basic principle of assembly simulation method in the virtual environment is studied in this paper also. Based on the DELIMA man-machine engineering module, the evaluation and simulation analysis about the results of assembly planning is researched. Taking into account the characteristics of the electromechanical products, cable simulation method is studied.Finally, the automobile steering machine model is used as an example, the assembly planning and simulation method this paper proposed is verified.
