Architectural theory is an important part of Chinese traditional thoughts. By meansof summarising ancient Chinese classics, this thesis indicates that craft (Gong) is amajor origin of theoretical knowledge and intellectuals, and greatly shaped Chineseancient thoughts. Dwelling (Ju), which is the basic form of man’s existing, wasconcerned by ancient philosophers. Chinese ancient scholars attach great importance todwelling, viewing and thinking it from different aspets. As a result, prolific architecturaltheories are formed. Through observing and thinking, the mutiple meanings of dwelling(Ju) are revealed. Finally, dwelling (Ju) becomes a category of ontology. Dwelling (Ju)shaped both man and architecture via nature and human relations, which shows itsontological meaning.
