With the rapid development of China’s shipbuilding industry as well as theexpanding market share in the world, China’s shipbuilding industry is facingtremendous changing and reforming pressure. Ship pipe production is an important partof shipbuilding, and its processing efforts take an important part overall shipbuildingworkload. Pipe workshop directly affects the progress of shipbuilding processing cycle.Currently, pipe workshop is facing many problems such as poor pallet management, lowproductivity, and delay phenomenon due to long processing cycle. To solve theseproblems, the paper proposed the operation control system of pipe workshop based ondouble pallets method, and it made in-depth research on the key aspects of the system.In this paper, it summarized the domestic and foreign research results and tookactual enterprise as research background. It described the characteristics of ship pipeworkshop, pointed out the main problems existing in pipe workshop, combined within-depth analysis, and finally it put forward the demand analysis of the operation controlof ship pipe workshop. With those results, the paper proposed the framework of theoperation control system of pipe workshop based on double pallets method making fulluse of a set of theories such as group manufacturing, TOC (Theory of Constriction) andCONWIP (CONstant Work in Process).According to the framework just mentioned, the paper elaborated the process of theoperation control system of pipe workshop based on double pallets method focusing onfive key aspects. Firstly, it described the double pallets method of ship pipe workshopbased on processing and installation pallets; secondly, it designed the coding method forprocessing pallets, and constructed the to-be-processed pipe clusters using the improvedfuzzy clustering method based on the code; thirdly, it confirmed the operation schedulesof bottleneck resources aiming to minimizing the maximum delay time by adopting agroup scheduling heuristic approach; then it explained the skills of management ofbuffer and batch size; finally, it studied the control strategy of material input with TOCand CONWIP methods.In the end, taking the pipe workshop of CD Shipbuilding Company as an example,the paper used the research results into the actual operation control system. Regardingto the real situation of the workshop, it presented detailed implementation plans andprocedure, evaluated part of the implementation outcomes, demonstrated the feasibility of the operation control system, and it provided a reference for other pipe workshops.
