Building fire simulation research is the foundation of modern fire science research methods,the use of numerical simulation methods to simulate fire process is one of the topics at theforefront of today’s fire research. This paper describes the development process of a firesimulation technology, analyzes the theory of fire development process, and the theoreticalbasis of building fire simulation, discusses the application of numerical simulation in activeand passive fire control. The main work done and conclusions are as follows:(1) The active fire control technologies of modern building include fire automatic alarmsystem, automatic fire extinguishing systems, smoke control systems, evacuation facilities,fire water, fire fighting equipment, etc.; passive fire protection technologies include fireinterval, fire rating, fire zoning, fire fighting conditions, fire separation measures;(2) Taking a commercial building for the study, automatic the fire extinguishing systemboot time, the available safe evacuation time and required evacuation time of the setting firescenes were simulated, the evacuation safety of setting scenarios were analyzed, the resultsdemonstrate that the effectiveness of automatic fire extinguishing system is an importantguarantee for safe evacuation;(3) Using FDS+Evac to simulate the spread of fire and evacuation at the same time, thesimulation results show that the product of fire will also have some impact on the safety ofpersonnel evacuation even they does not affect the life safety of people, so that the evacuationtime increases;(4) Taking a convention and exhibition center for the study, the theoretical calculations andnumerical simulation were obtained to research the fire barrier and the stool roof fireprotection of this center. The result show the reasonable design width of the fire barrier is10m,and the site of steel roof below10m need fire protection. The numerical results are in goodagreement with theoretical calculations.In this paper, building fire smoke spread and the evacuation were simulated, the findingscould assess the validity of active and passive fire protection technology, of the application ofnumerical simulation technology in the fire control of construction was validated, whichwould provide a reference for similar building fire control.
