The Memristor is a passive electronic element that was postulated by Leon Chua in1971.Besides resistors, inductors and capacitors, which are three basic circuit element, Memristorsare considered to be the fourth basic circuit element. It reflects the relationship between themagnetic flux φ and the charge q of the circuit. In2008, HP Labs successfully fabricatedthe Memristors with TiO2film, which set off a new round of Memristor research. But for thegeneral researcher in power electronics, the TiO2film Memristors can hardly be used inexperiments. Thus Memristor circuit models that are suitable to power electronics field needto be instituted.The characteristics and current circuit models of Memristor are analyzed in this paper.And the new methods of building the circuit models of Memristors are proposed, which arevalidated by experiments. Then the purpose of using Memristors as snubber element insnubber circuit are conceived in this paper, which also validated with the new circuit modelsin simulation.In this paper, the following several aspects are studied:1. The define of Memristor and the model of Memristor that was found by HP labs areanalyzed in this paper. On the foundation of the current circuit models, a new method ofbuilding the circuit models of Memristors is proposed. The new models build a voltagecontrolled source with arithmetic circuits like Multiplier and divider, so that the inputvoltage and current characteristics of the model totally meets the definition ofMemristors. And the implementation of model is simple and reliable. According to theactual needs, the Memresistance can be easily adjusted by setting the value of DCvoltage, resistance and Integration constant and etc. Then the validity of the models areverified though experiment.2. High Power circuit model of Memristor are propose secondly in this paper for theexisting circuit model low power level. In this high power model, A class D amplifier isused as the output stage of the voltage controlled source so that the IC of control stagecan be separated from main circuit, which greatly improves the power level of the model.The validity of the high power model are verified though simulations and semi-physical model with RT-LAB emulator, which could be the reference of Memristor applicationsin high power occasions.3. Then based on the analysis of the conventional RC snubber circuit and the RCDclamping circuit, using Memristors as RC snubber circuit and using MD(Memristor&diode) circuit as RCD clamping circuit are conceived thirdly in this paper. The validityof both ideas are verified by the calculations and simulations. Meanwhile, according tothe parameters calculations of the RC snubber circuit and the RCD clamping circuit, themethods of parameters calculation of two Memristor snubber circuit(M&MD) areproposed. Compared with the conventional RC snubber circuit and the RCD clampingcircuit, Memristor snubber circuit(M&MD) are more energy-efficient though thecalculation of the examples. The feasibility of using Memristors as snubber circuit isverified.
