In1971, Leon O. Chua, who came from University of California Berkeley, USA, predicted the existence of memristor according to the circuit integrity theory; In2008, HP Laboratory proposed the physical model of memristor. The unique nanoscale dimensions, natural storage capacity and non-linear characteristics of memristor, have attracted people’s widespread attentions. This thesis focuses on the potential applications of memristor in chaotic circuit and logic gate structure. On one hand, with the application of the chaotic system developed increasingly widely, due to the the traditional chaotic circuit structure is complex and hard to circuitry impiementation, making the development of chaotic systems coming to obstacles. On one hand, the computer system is based on the logic gates to implement its functions, in many cases, the operands passed repeatedly between the memory and the arithmetic logic unit must via the logic gates. Traditional logic gate is composed of transistors, with transistor size will reach the limit, the bottleneck of the development of the traditional logic gates is coming soon. In this thesis, we design memristor-based chaotic circuit according to the non-linear characteristics of memristor, de sign the memristor-based logic gate ciucuit by the switching characteristics of memristor, we can make the chaotic circuit and logic gate circuit more miniature. The main contents of this thesis are as follows:(1) The basic theory and working principle of the memristor were introduced, and the Matlab and Spice simulation of HP memristor model were implemented. In order to confirm the basic properties of the memristor. Typical applications of memristor were introduced.(2) The conventional Chua’s chaotic circuit is introduced, the complexity of the circuit structure is analyzed, and the fourth-order chua’s chaotic circuit is given. The impact of the linear coupling and dimensionless equation on the chaotic circuit performance is analyzed.(3) After applying the memristor into the improved chua chaotic circuit, the circuit structure has been simplified effectively. Moreover, we simulated the special circuit, analyzed its chaotic characteristics successfully based on the Matlab software platform and Lyaponov exponent respectively. We also verified the effectiveness of replacing the chua diode with memristor and discussed the influences of changing circuit parameters on the chaotic characteristics.(4) We demonstrated the logic operation theory of the traditional computer system and switching characteristics of memristor. Afterwards, we constructed the memristor-based adder through combination of the memristor and conventional circuits. Lastly, we simulated the memristive logic circuit by using Matlab and Pspice software, and the computer simulations verified correctness and effectiveness.
