Pattern design has a decisive influence on the product form, an excellent decorativepattern can play the dotting role for the product form design,but existing pattern designs aremostly flat patterns. Automatically generating complex and beautiful entity decorativepatterns and applying it into product appearance modeling is the main content of this thesis.In this paper, product form pattern design as the core study main includes two aspects,for one thing is extracting pattern elements from existing patterns and realizing the vectoring,for another is materializing the patterns after vectorization and achieving pattern innovativedesign according to the rules of composition.This paper achieved image gray-scale and binaryzation processing for color images byusing image processing technology and software, and then using non-linear filteringmethod-morphological filtering to achieve binary images’ denoising processing.We use theboundary extraction function and re-paint boundary function of MATLAB image processingtoolbox for binary image thinning after denoising, and we get clear and smooth imageskeletons(patterns).Then we use the optimized Harris corner extraction methods for key pointextraction of image skeleton, thus the image contour is expressed as a series of line segmentinformation.Finally we apply the non-uniform cubic B spline curve to achieve the extractedimage contours fitting,and achieve complex patterns’ vector representation.We save B splinecurve’s control point coordinates and node vector parameter as text files,easy to use when theentity pattern generated automatically.This paper integrated Visual C++6.0programming developing platform with UGsecondary development technology and develops entity pattern library system of productform.The system not only achieve drawing and materialization of two-dimensional curvepattern(mainly structural curves), but also can generate complex and beautiful entity patternsby change case-based pattern genes or composition rules.We also researched the pattern genes extraction methods of traditional patterns and itsapplication in product form.At the same time,on the case of the logo design of coarse filterproduced by one company,we described how to design three-dimensional entity decorativepatterns integrating Chinese traditional culture for product appearance form in detail,also weresearched how to develop and use the traditional pattern library system.
