As a public service, urban public transport is of vital importance to the nationaleconomy and people’s livelihood and has been attracting more and more attention. In recentyears, the development of urban and rural integration brings on many such thorny problemsas urban traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and resources strain. To resolve theseissues more effectively, the integrative development of urban public transport has become acurrent trend of urban passenger transport. The integrative development of conventionalpublic transit and rail traffic is the concrete manifestation of the integrative development ofurban public transport, both effective coordination and convergence in management,technology is the key to achieving the integration of the city’s public transportation.This article firstly summarizes the theory and practice for the integrative developmentof urban public transport at home and abroad under the background of domestic vigorousdevelopment and construction of rail transit. Through the research of its developmentenvironment, causes, concepts and aims, the strategy and approach are proposed.Meanwhile, the paper also studies certain ways of utility cohesion and passenger transferaccording to the design principles and design thinking of the Conventional Public Transitand Rail Traffic System. Next, the paper unfolds by a case study of the integrativedevelopment of conventional public transit and rail traffic in Xi’an. Through the analysis ofXi’an overall urban planning, combined with the current situation of the development ofXi’an urban public transport, in the light of the concrete environment under the backgroundof Xi’an city public transportation integration to make the suitable deve lopment plan andmanagement scheme for Xi’an city public traffic integration, to protect residents’convenienttravel demand. Finally, the study conclusion is summarized and certain questions remainedto be deeply researched and development directions are proposed.
