Steel cord is the most commonly used and ideal material of auto radial tire, which has a great impact on the quality of radial tire. Getting rid of the quality problem caused by the disproportional alignment of steel cord quickly, could improve the qualified rate of auto tire effectively, reduce enterprise loss, and protect personal safety better. At present, X-ray transmission imaging method of steel cord space detection was mostly used by domestic enterprises, however this method can only be used to qualitatively analyze the space property of steel cord, can’t quantitatively detect the space of steel cord, simultaneously X-ray has a bad impact on healthy, and its volume of detection equipment is large. In order to avoid those problems, a new detection method is urgently needed.With the continuous development of magnet-electric detection technology, it has wide application prospect in steel cord space detection. In this paper, magnet-electric sensor was adopted to detect the steel cord space based on the magnet-electric detection technology. Taking a section of magnet-electric signal as the original signal, and then filtering process was conducted in MATLAB by using Median filter, moving average filter, Butterworth low-pass filer, FIR low-pass filter and wavelet filter. Advantages and disadvantages of those five filtering algorithms were analyzed, and finally concluded that wavelet algorithm had a good de-correlation and multi-resolution characteristic. So it can make the peak information of magnet-electric signal, and quantitatively detect the space of steel cord.In order to verify the feasibility of filter algorithm in practical application, a platform of detecting the space between steel cords is built, and the filter program was written in TMS320F2812. The consistency of waveform after DSP filtered and MATLAB has been compared and analyzed, and the correctness of the filter algorithm was verified. Then, the space between adjacent peaks of filtered magnet-electric signals is extracted in DSP program. The correspondence between the peak distance after filtering and the actual space of steel cord was also quantitatively analyzed. The experimental results show that the magnet-electric detection technology of steel cord based on wavelet filter can quantitatively detect the space between steel cords.
