Loading and unloading double cycling operation method for quay cranes, vehicles and yardcranes in container terminal is studied. Based on synchronized loading and unloading technology,which is deeply researched in practical application on terminal scheduling, integrated with thesynchronized loading and unloading method of containers based on simultaneous hatchesoperations and simultaneous bays operations, the integrated scheduling method of synchronizedloading and unloading operations based on kinds of cranes in container terminal was proposed.With the objective of minimizing the total container vehicle transporting time, an optimizationmodel was established. Parthenon-genetic algorithm and rule of simultaneously operations in yardwas put forward for solving this model. The loading and unloading sequence of containers within aship is optimized so that the transportation time of vehicles in the container terminal will achievethe shortest value. The solution is verified by numerical tests and engineering application.Compared with the traditional single cycling operations, the integrated scheduling method ofsynchronized loading and unloading operations based on kinds of cranes in container terminal areconfirmed of great significance to improve the efficiency of equipment, perfect the driving way ofvehicles. The main contents of this paper are introduced as follow:Firstly, the function and layout of container terminal is introduced, as well as the productionprocess, the handing facilities, and the related terms of terminal. Synchronized loading andunloading method is brought in. The definitions of hatch, bay, storage area, field number, areanumber in container terminal are given for the use of follow-up synchronized loading andunloading methods.Secondly, based on simultaneous hatches operations,integrated with the rule of loading andunloading operations in yard, the synchronized loading and unloading method in the same ship-bayis proposed, which considers of the same storage area and the different storage area. Then, themathematical modeling, examples analyses are brought in for above two methods to prove thefeasibility and effectiveness of each method. Thirdly, in order to improve the efficiency of loading and unloading more, the synchronizedloading and unloading method in different ship-bays based on simultaneous bays operations isproposed, which considers of the same storage area and the different storage area. At last, theoptimal solution of loading and unloading sequences and the minimum total vehicle transportingtime are obtained.Finally, synchronized loading and unloading method is applied to Ningbo Gangji TerminalCompany Limited of Ningbo Beilun Harbor. By the real data calculation, the advantage of theintegrated scheduling method of synchronized loading and unloading operations based on kinds ofcranes in container terminal is proved concerning handing efficiency.
