Tool management system is widely used in flexible manufacture system(FMS). Torealize the automation of FMS, tool management system is absolutely necessary.Currently, domestic researches is mostly following the foreign tool managementtechnology, because the researched of tool management are started out lately. Mostenterprises focus on a center aspect of tool management system, such as categorymanagement, parameter management and basic inventory management.In this paper, the ideals and methods of the tool life-cycle management areintroduced into the tool management, basing on the traditional research of toolmanagement, combining the requirement of tool management in enterprise. The entiretracking of tools in enterprise is realized, the scheduling problem of tool flow isinvestigated, the design and developing of the intelligent tool management system isaccomplished. The following aspects is the main work in this paper.Firstly, the scheme of classification and automatic coding of tools is proposed anddifferent methods of tool recognizing in tool management system are compared. Basedon coding for each tool, tool life-cycle management can control the whole process ofeach tool from procurement to scrap. The scheme of automatic tool recognizing isestablished based on RFID(radio frequency identification) system.Secondly, By analyzing the importance of the FMS tool flow, a mathematical modelof integrated scheduling for JSP with tool flow is established. The static schedulingproblem of tool flow, which is just the pre-scheduling before manufacturing, isinvestigated, basing on a developed bi-directional convergence ant colony algorithm.Matlab is used to program the algorithm. Because of the design on the method of toolassignment and improved state transition probability rule, this algorithm is moreefficient and achieves better results.Finally, the tool intelligent management system for FMS is designed andaccomplished, basing on C#, EXT.NET and three-tier framework of B/S mode.Inventory management, parameter management, in-out stock management, procurementmanagement are integrated on the system. Not only tool life-cycle management isaccomplished, but also the entire tool tracking.
