Tool as a workshop production of the main consumable resources has the most proportion in the parts of manufacturing cost. It has huge influence on the workshop production efficiency and the cost whether the tool information is effectively managed. In this paper, we used information encoding, laser marking and database technology for tool information marking and recognition and tool management system for the aviation engine NC machining workshop. The main researches of this paper are as follows:(1) The classification of face and line classification tool was used to classify the tool. Then tool information model was built, and tool information encoding was designed though rigid and flexible combination of encoding way. The software of the tool information encoding is designed.(2) Using Matrix Data(DM) two dimensional bar code as the tool information carrier in the tool management system, and Advanced Encryption Standard(AES) encryption algorithm, constructed the DM two-dimensional code information model, and DM two-dimensional code generation software was designed.(3) The two-dimensional code direct laser marking experiment of the tool was carried out, the rule of selecting the parameters of the laser marking cemented carbide tool was obtained. Then, the barcode readability experiment through was carried out, to reveal the effect of oil, light, incomplete, the reading distance to laser marking of DM two-dimensional code reading and put forward the recommended reading condition.(4) A network based tool management database system based on B/S framework was designed. The tool information mainly includes basic information, tool technology parameter information, and historical use information tool. Through the tool surface laser marking DM two-dimensional code reading, the whole life cycle monitoring management of the target tool was realized.
