The development of aero-engine was a systematic engineering with advanced technology, longresearch cycle and high costs. The aero-engine structure scheme required calculating repeatedly byresearchers of aerodynamic, thermal and structure strength analysis. This paper mainly focused onparametric and optimal designs of aero-engine structures. The main work contents and results asfollowing:(1) The software platform of aero-engine structure parametric design was developed withAutoCAD and VB Language. By structural characteristic analysis to typical components ofaero-engine, the critical parameters of typical components (disk, axis and casing) were extracted. Thefunction of AutoCAD parametric modeling to typical components was achieved, simplifying the workof aero-engine structure scheme design.(2) On the basis of parametric modeling of the typical components, the parts were assembled intothe components, and the components were fitted to the core engine (axial compressor,centrifugal compressor, refluxing combustion chamber and turbine) stage by stage, which provided apreliminary platform for the parametric subsequent development of the whole engine’s structurescheme.(3) The geometric models of the typical aero-engine components were transformed to the finiteelement models making use of characteristic structural parameters in the software. The optimizingdesign program for the disk and axis was written in the APDL language. The axial compressor rotorsand turbine rotors were optimized with the finite element analysis software ANSYS. The structureparametric design program and optimizing design program were packaged with VB.NET developingtool, forming the complete aero-engine parametric design and optimizing design software platform.The weight of the turbine rotor was reduced by20%as the example in the paper.The structure’s parametric design and optimizing design was one of the developing directions ofaero-engine design technology. The parametric design of the components for core engine wasachieved with the software platform in the paper. The structure parametric design was combined withthe optimizing design, and could be applied to the overall structure design and preliminary optimaldesign of the engine.
