The artery traffic is an important part of urban road network and take a lot of traffic load. The unblocked artery has great effect to improve urban traffic conditions. It’s a complex issueto alleviate traffic problems through optimization traffic signal coordination. Therefore, thethesis has a deep research on the arterial traffic signal coordination optimized control methodsand strategies.Firstly, based on the current status of urban artery and microscopic traffic flowsimulation, the thesis discussed the relevant knowledge of traffic signal control theory andgenetic algorithm and then analyzed the artery characteristics and the current signalcoordination and optimization methods (cycle optimization, green ratio optimization, offsetoptimization, etc.).Secondly, in order to solve the problem that signal timing optimization has a lot ofconstraints and low computational efficiency and difficulty to converge for algorithm, thethiesis used traffic flow theory to build traffic wave model and proposed a new model topredict the queue length and then established the optimal control objective which was theminimum of arterial average delay time and used genetic algorithm based on allocation ratiodecoding method to overcome this difficulty.Thirdly, combined with microscopic traffic simulation theory and computer simulationtechnology, the thesis established a microscopic simulation system for arterial signal timing.By componentization traffic elements and considering the impact of vehicle queue blockingand turning left, the system built vehicle reached model, running model, turn-left vehiclecollision avoidance model and queuing dissipation model and successfully simulate the realtraffic. Finally, for an instance, the thesis used three control strategies to simulate the arterialtraffic on the microscopic simulation system for arterial signal timing, and make detailedcomparison and analysis on the control parameters. The results verified the feasibility andeffectiveness of the coordinate control method based on the genetic algorithm. The research has a great theoretical significance on coordinating and optimizing theurban arterial traffic signal, and provides a reference method and means for solving practicalproblems of urban arterial traffic signal timing.
