China’s urbanization has brought a lot of construction of urban residential district, andwith the rapid social and economic development, urban residential district constructionstandards are also raising. But the rapid development of residential district are facing theconstraints of the natural environment. A series of serious environmental and ecologicalproblems forced people to rethink the relationship between urban development and the naturalenvironment, urban residential district development model of high-intensity space needs ispeople-oriented, does not consider the natural ecological balance, resulting in a waste of landresources, deterioration of ecological environment, urban residential district water logging,living comfort reduced, so the construction of sustainable urban residential district becomeinevitable.China’s urban residential district development needs in a sustainable manner, LowImpact Development (LID) is an important way to achieve sustainable development of urbanresidential district, LID start from an urbanized area stormwater management concept, theface of urbanization changes in the underlying surface, LID proposed natural drainagepatterns and rainwater utilization patterns, and then a profound impact on the urban planning,with further research, LID has transformed from a simple method of stormwater managementas an urban planning method. LID site planning and integrated management approach is amature technology that can be directly applied to the development of urban residential district,compared with other sustainable planning concepts more operational and easier to achieve thegoal of sustainable development of urban residential district.The topic of this paper is to promote the sustainable development of urban settlements.Core of this paper is a combination of urban settlements with LID technology. For the plightof urban settlements development has faced pointed out the path of sustainable developmentof urban settlements Low-impact development. Further systematic study of the characteristicsof LID, technology system of LID, benefits of LID, LID site planning and LID integratedmanagement. This paper focuses on the applicability of the LID in urban settlements, LID effect on the construction of urban settlements, LID content in urban settlements planning,LID applications in urban settlements, And by actual case illustrates the urban settlementsLID design ideas, design process, LID control method, the effect of the implementation ofrelevant post-LID techniques.This paper has made the following conclusions: LID is very suitable for urbansettlements development and its application prospects; LID has a good ecological benefit,economic benefit and social benefit; urban settlements LID designed to control runoffcoefficient as the core; urban settlements low-impact development should return tolow-impact core philosophy, breaking the limitations of hydrological management into anadvanced urban planning ideas.
