Firstly, the technical background of the switched reluctance wind powergenerator system was introduced in this paper. After the comparison of severalcommonly used generators, advantage of switched reluctance motor used in windpower generator system was summarized. The significance of developing switchedreluctance generator for wind power system was clearly shown in this paper. Secondly,A DC motor was used to imitate the wind turbine, compared the wind turbine outputcharacteristic and DC motor, analyzed the methods of DC motor simulation of windturbine, a control scheme based on torque feedback was proposed for imitation. Boththe power converter and digital controller were designed for DC motor, and theflowchart of the control program was presented. Thirdly, the main circuit ofself-excitation generation and it-excitation generation for SRG system wereintroduced with analysis of the characteristics of the two circuits. A simulation modeof self-excitation three-phase SRG with structure of12/8was built onMatlab/Simulink, voltage closed loop control was used to simulate and analyze thefindings. Finally, the switched reluctance generator system was built, including powerconverter and digital controller, and the flowchart of the control program waspresented. The PC software with Ethernet communication achieved monitoring andcommand function. The wind power system experiments for DC motor imitation, thecharacteristics of self-excitation generation of SRG, constant voltage output,maximum power point tracking of the system were taken. Effectiveness of proposedcontrol scheme and principle analysis was demonstrated by the experiences.
