| Businesses are passive without right guidance to analysis user needs correctlywhen they began to shift focus on user-centered design. It requires that we shouldinsight into user preferences deeply from their standpoint, in order to guide newproduct development direction, and improve the quality of industrial design which ismeasured by customer satisfaction in the meanwhile. This paper, which is writtenfrom a user’s point of view, built a complete theoretical system to understand andanalyze user needs by understanding consuming behaviors through the acquisitionand integration of user knowledge initially, so as to provide reference and guidancefor the enterprise product development on the basis of grasping the user needsaccurately.The user needs are divided into three hierarchies of instinctive needs, emotionalneeds and psychic needs from the design perspective in this paper, on the basis ofMaslow’s hierarchy of needs, hygiene-motivational factors and Kano mode. Userknowledge of user experience and user errors is related to the hierarchy of instinctiveneeds, which focuses on user’s instinctive reaction, cognition and habit. Core of therelationship between enterprises and consumers are price, people may bedisappointed when these needs are lacked. User knowledge of user decision and usercommunication is related to the hierarchy of emotional needs, which focuses onuser’s feeling and emotion. Core of the relationship between enterprises andconsumers are user satisfaction, the affective experience of products is user’s greatestconcern and also the enterprise’s competitive focus. User knowledge of userstimulation and user expectation is related to the hierarchy of psychic needs, whichfocuses on user’s deep-seated complex psychological experience. Enterprises richcustomer values by promoting user’s engagement and the sense of wonder, so as tobuild user’s viscosity as well as brand trust and loyalty. These hierarchies of needscould offer mutual support and complement, or even could transmute into each other.This paper ends with an example of elders’ sanitary product design to show thetheory’s application effect and provide references for its further application and expansion. At the core of this paper which is both theoretical and practical is thetheory of hierarchy of product needs based on user knowledge, which connect userknowledge with user needs, as well as bridge the communication gap between users,products and enterprises, it can also objectively appraise products’ content extent touser needs during the design evaluation stage. |
