The only consideration in the river training work was river hydro-technical element, other functions of river were almost ignored, and so was the flood protection period of designed landscape. Until the "multi Nature Rivers" theory has been published lately, the attention of the river training work was back to the natural river period that its inherent ecological functions were restored. Some economically developed countries have accumulated considerable theoretical and practical experience of urban flood protection work and landscape overall design. While our country didn’t pay enough attention to this work, and just stayed at the level of teaching and application experience. The levee design or artificial landscape of water body design was emphasized, but theory and practice research of the flood protection theory and landscape overall design were still lack.The urban river training work and landscape overall design based on the existing research theory of the urban river training work and landscape overall design, were carried out in this paper according to the related rules, which was combined with the domestic and international cases, taken Yunlong two-oriented society demonstration area in Zhuzhou as an example, using methods of literature study, field trips, multi-disciplinary research and design-practice binding. The specific research results are as follows:(1) The relevant research results at home and abroad and the history evolution of flood protection and landscape overall design were summarized, and the relevant theories were teased out, including river restoration, water balance analysis, water environment and four kinds of flood control method, providing the theoretical basis and technical support for the flood control and landscape overall design of Longmu river system.(2)Four principles and three strategies of flood control and landscape overall design was proposed, including protection function principle, overall design principle, proportionality principle, people-oriented principle, and ecological priority strategy, waterfront diverse strategy and people-oriented strategy, through analyzing the status of Longmu river system in Zhuzhou City, explaining the necessity of the comprehensive management of water systems, solving the problems of flood control and the landscape overall design. These principles and strategies can provide planning ideas and guidance for the flood control and river system overall landscape design of Longmu river.(3) The theories and strategies were applied in the flood control and landscape overall design of Longmu river system, combining enclosing the reservoir through building the dam, levees, stormwater discharge and ecological wetland system of the theoretical analysis with the specific design implementation. This paper is more than a purely theoretical paper because the four kinds of flood control method, selection method and specific practice analysis were described carefully and respectively.The above research results showed that the relationship between the flood control and landscape could be handled scientifically, effectively and ecologically, through analysing four kinds of flood control method including reservoir through building the dam, levees, stormwater discharge and ecological wetland system. This kind of flood control and landscape overall design model not only was suitable for the overall design of comprehensive management project on Longmu River in Zhuzhou city River, but also could provide the reference for the flood control and landscape overall design of other rivers.
