| In the late20th century, with widening the road, alterating and demoliting the dilapidatedbuildings, Beijing city which is a pedestrian-oriented historic city has became a citydominated by the car. Aetually, smilar problems have been showed in the developed countrieswhich have walked though by devoleping pedestrian in the centre of city. It is worth to studyand summarize the experience and the degsin concept of these counties to protect the historccity and improve the quality of urban residents’ life.By studying the development of pedestrian system in developed couties, from theperspective of historical development, this paper would discourse the development of urbantransport, urban public environment, pedestrian environment ect. Compared with the foreigncoutry, and found that two featuers in the planning and construction of pedestrian: the pace ofdevelopment of China’s pedestrian environment behind the United States and Europe;knowing the design theory and imitating the experience frome these countries.Investigating the pedestrian environment in the North Axis of Beijing City, the Beijingold city was found that walking street has being appeared in this area, which has beingdeveloped, but there are many problems that contains long distance and fewer public transport,unreasonable bus lines, lack of public facilities, car jeeves etc. These problems in Beijing oldcity become an obstacle on developing the pedestrian environment system in the city.Analysis found that the contradiction between man and the car is a product of the times,which means that exclude the party supported the other does not get good results. To achievethe peace between people and vehicles, sustainable development of the city, rich urbanactivities and vibrant city life, Beijing old city need to develop public transport and pedestriantraffic.Finally, after analying the pedestrian system in the North Axis of Beijing City andresearching a lot of design theory, this paper propose specific practical design strategies andprograms which rational division pedestrian area and unit, improving public transport systemand the pedestrian environment of public facilities, target different stages of the planningdivision at different times, in order to realize sustainable development of the old city. |
