The Research On The Urban Landmark In Kunming

Kunming is a distinctive city in Southwest China, it has profound national culture and urban culture. In the past20years, Kunming had entered a stage of rapid development, large-scale urban regeneration and urban rebuild is in process, Kunming city in a large number of historic buildings were demolished, the uneven quality of the new building is built, will bring to the cultural characteristics of Kunming loss of urban space confusion embarrassment. Faced with this reality, to regain the city personality, reshape the image of the city of Kunming is very important and necessary.City landmarks as the city’s calling card show the symbol of the city’s personality characteristics. In this thesis, the Kunming city landmark as the object of study is to investigate the shape a new image of the city of Kunming, Kunming city to enhance the quality of some of the proposals.This thesis first describes the background and the reason of choosing topic, and emphasized the feasibility of research topic. Secondly, this thesis will introduce Kunming city from the four aspects including natural environment, social history, urban culture and urban morphology, and trying to analyze the personality of Kunming city to prepare to explore the personality symbol city later. In the third chapter, there is a in-depth investigation to Kunming city landmark through two ways which are "cognitive map" and survey methods, and do research from two angles through quantitative and orientation by drawing to determine the Kunming city landmark which had a strong public resonate. It called public image of the city landmarks. In the fourth chapter, I will analyze the development process of the landmark architecture in Kunming from the three periods including ancient, modern and contemporary. The fifth chapter, I will analyze the types of landmarks and the features of landmark in detail. Finally, I will propose some corresponding suggestion according the problems of present situation of Kunming landmark, hoping to provide some reference in designing urban landmarks.
