In the national standard "technical standard for site testing of masonry engineering"GB/T50315-2011, some methods of testing the compressive strength of mortar in masonryare proposed, such as the method of push out, the method of compression in cylinder, themethod of shear on mortar flake, the method of mortar rebound, the method of point load andthe method of local compression on mortar flake, and so on. However, the standard appliesonly to test the compressive strength of mortar of fired brick masonry. Among these sixmethods, the method of compression in cylinder is a detection method based on fieldsampling test. With the deep promotion and implementation of the policy of “four saving and a green”,non-fired brick masonry has been widely used. In order to adapt to this trend, SichuanInstitute of Building Research applied to the ministry of housing and urban rural developmentand led the preparation work about "technical standard for site testing of non fired brickmasonry engineering". With the resources and related conditions of Sichuan Institute ofBuilding Research and Chengdu Construction Engineering Scientific Research and DesignInstitute, the experiment has been done and the related tests data of Shanxi Sijian GroupCo.,Ltd and Nanchong Construction Quality Testing Center has been summarized by author. At last, this article has been finished after induction, analysis and summary. The types of thestudied non-fired brick masonry are concrete common brick, concrete perforated brick, concrete small hollow block, autoclaved fly ash common brick, autoclaved fly ash perforatedbrick, and the type of the masonry mortar is cement mortar. Because the test of cement mortarwith extra fine sand is different from the ordinary cement mortar, so testing the compressivestrength of cement mortar with extra fine sand of non-fired brick masonry with the method ofcompression in cylinder is analyzed specially.According to the theoretical analysis and comparison of testing the compressive strengthof mortar in masonry engineering with the method of compression in cylinder, the principlesof testing the compressive strength of mortar in fired brick masonry and non-fired brickmasonry are the same. Being based on the method of compression in cylinder listed in theexisting national standards "technical standard for site testing of masonry engineering" GB/T50315-2011, the experiment research and analysis work were carried out through thecomparative analysis and refit. Studies have shown that, because of the large differences inmaterial properties of fired brick and non-fired brick, so there is a great influence on theformation of the strength of mortar. What’s more, there is also a great impact on the strengthof mortar with the same mixture ratio. The method of compression in cylinder given in GB/T 50315-2011to test the compressive strength of mortar is not applicable to non-fired brickmasonry. According to the experiment data, the compressive strength curve of mortar innon-fired brick masonry that meets the engineering precision is given and a blank of masonrystructural engineering field is filled. In this article, testing the compressive strength of cement mortar in masonry engineeringwith the method of compression in cylinder is studied systematically and the results have beenapplied to the new industry standards. Because of the complexity and diversity of non-firedbrick masonry engineering, further research work needs to be carried out in the aspects ofsampling methods, sampling number, block types in order to provide the technical basis forthe revision of industry standard and engineering application.
