In recent years, with the rapid development of our country’s economic, infrastructure projects represented by railways, construction, water conservancy, oil, gas pipelines and other aspects are growing.This must be accompanied by the demand in growing construction machinery which is represented by excvavtor. However, with the increasing number of excavators’ users in China, the problem found in the process of maintenance, management, construction has become increasingly obvious, and the traditional solution has been insufficient to deal with it. Therefore, the use of the existing information technology to research and development of the remote monitoring system of excavator has become an inevitable trend.This paper introduces the task’s research background and remote monitoring technology’s research status in our country and abroad at first,through analysising and summarizing the main demand in excavator’s remote monitoring system and fully understanding the technologies relating to remote monitoring systems, and then developed the overall design project on the remote monitoring system.Remote monitoring system is made up of a vehicle terminal installed in the excavator and a remote monitoring center. STC12C5A60S2microcontroller is used as the core of vehicle terminal, peripheral modules of the vehicle terminal including GPS positioning module, GSM wireless communication module, CAN bus communication module, LCD module, serial communication module and power module. Design of the hardware and software of the vehicle terminal was done according to the system’s design project, and the PCB circuit board’s soldering was finally completed with the debugging of hardware and software for the overall terminal. In this paper, two chapters were used to describe the on-board terminal’s hardware and software design, and to provide the car terminal’s hardware circuit schematic of each function module and the flow chart of software designing.Monitoring center consists of the GSM DTU module and PC software. PC software’s programming language is in the graphical programming language Lab VIEW, which is introduced by NI company. Monitoring center is responsible for receiving, analysising and displaying the data which is sent by the vehicle terminal. Based on the actual requirements of the Monitoring Center, this paper completes the software design of GSM DTU module and PC software’s interface design and program design.This paper also provides the GSM DTU module’s flow chart of software design and the block diagram of PC software’s main module.The summary of this article appears in the last chapter of the paper.This chapter points out the deficiencies exist in the work as well as the directions and recommendations for future improvements.
