With the rapid development of economy and society and the increasingnumber of motor vehicles, the demands of roads construction have increased in cities.However, roads in some residences such as universities, hospitals, large communities,enterprises and institutions are still not standardized. The appropriate systems ofroads planning and design as well as road management are not available yet.Meanwhile, the related research and practical application is lacked in our country.With the popularity of family vehicles, the number of vehicles on campuses has alsogrown dramatically which causes many problems such as traffic, safety andenvironmental protection.In some residences, traffic problems and its corresponding conflicts are criticalthan that on city roads. Some time in the future, the residences will become the mostprominent areas on their environment and safety. Therefore, it is essential to studytransport system within the districts.Researching on campuses parking, combined with the steady static traffic theory,the paper develops the idea of slow traffic in residences. Firstly, investigating andanalyzing the formation, traffic characteristics, traffic problems and its solutions onsome campuses in North America, Europe, Asia and domestic universities, thensummarize the traffic problems in different regions of the university campus andrespond strategies. Secondly, taking domestic universities as main research object,bringing forward the optimization strategies of campus traffic system based on slowtraffic principles.Finally, taking Shijiazhuang TIEDAO University as an example, analyzing thetraffic characteristics, road traffic conflicts and other issues on its campus byconducting field surveys and analyzing statistical data. Then, proposing overall andspecific optimization strategies of campus transportation system based ontransportation planning, road planning, traffic organization, transportation facilitiesand traffic management, in addition, drawing the transportation plan of Shijiazhuang Railway University campus.
