At present, due to diversified demand and high real time, special software platform of relay protection device is developed to meet the different demand of series protection, leading to the longer development period, low reliability, reusability and portability and high maintenance.A independent platform is studied, including object-oriented software design, cleat calling, and a software framework with three layers, satisfying the requirement of a hard real time relay protection software system. And then based on the analysis of the digital substation technological trend by comparing with the traditional and digital protection, and IEC61850technology standard, a model and API is put forward. Comparing with and analyzing the traditional software design, the middle layer basic software general function is implemented by modeling, abstracting, modularization’s design of the traditional one. The modified middle layer modularization is independent of software and hardware, realizing software transplantation completely. The paper includes the contents as follows:The middle layer’s common pats, and the software was modeled. The software was designed, analyzing relay protection common feature, the middle layer’s common parts, based on the relay protection general principle. The standard of the API between middle and application layers is established. And the interface is defined uniformed, and the information-exchange\s API of the application layer is build and the standard is also unified. In the meantime, the paper studies the hard real time, high reliability software platform technology and a completely transplantable general relay protection software platform technology.The meaning of the paper can be concluded as follows. A reliable platform for intelligent electric grid’s digital protection is provided applying the drive software design. Three layers software framework, and standard API makes decouple the hardware and software, that is the software is independent on the hardware, making the code is transplantable completely, improving the software robustness, and shortening the development cycle.
