As urban rail transit (URT) system improves rapidly, the limited capacity could not satisfy travelers’booming demand, especially at peak hour. For certain authorities, to control passenger flow volume is a straightforward choice to guarantee safety and lower the pressure on urban rail transit stations at the same time. However this field still lacks theoretical study. This thesis aims to discuss passenger volume control plan for URT station based on these issues. The first step is literature review regarding relevant researches conducted on URT system such as passenger flow volume characteristics, passenger gathering and distribution pattern, and passenger flow volume threshold. After determining the two factors, passenger flow volume threshold and passenger flow characteristics, a theory system of passenger flow volume control is generated along with some basis rules. Then detailed contents of the two factors are discussed and to be specified following paragraphs.Secondly a methodology about passenger flow volume threshold is described. With the premise of composition analysis of URT station system, this research did a logical analysis of passenger flow using system dynamics model and came up with the calculation model. After gathering data from investigation, compared to the regulation, the calculation model can be applied to determine passenger flow volume threshold and the bottleneck.m the fourth section, a hybrid simulation model allowing a quantitative evaluation of the station is presented. It begins with systemic description of train’s arrival and departure. And a hybrid Petri-net based model is suggested to show passenger flow characteristics during morning peak hour.At the end Fuxingmen Station of Beijing Subway is investigated for a case study, including layout and important parameters. Using the methodology described above, passenger flow volume threshold and passenger flow characteristics are presented. According to actual data and the results showing passengers’ situation, this study determined bottleneck point and proposed several control measure.
