The organic renewal of existing city buildings is a kind of reasonable renovation and redevelopment of existing buildings, as well as the important part of urban sustainable development. There are a variety of ways to renew existing buildings and many diversified contents. Meanwhile, it should follow a set of rules.Based on the studies of the existing buildings in Wenzhou City in terms of building elevation renovation, functional renovation and facility renovation, this paper explores the design solution to the renewal and renovation of existing buildings.In the elevation renovation project of the original terminal of Wenzhou Airport, this paper focuses on the spatial relationship of the surroundings, reasonable utilization of the original external envelope system, easy construction and other issues. As to the elevation renovation project of Wenzhou Laoxiangshan Drugstore, the technical means to save the original building elevation information is researched.In the case study of Wenzhou Junyao Hotel Renovation Project, this paper highlights functional improvement, design code and other aspects. In the conceptual scheme study of Wenzhou Flour Mill Renovation, it puts forward suggestions for reservation and reconstruction by value assessment.Through three case studies of elevator addition for multi-storey residential, the paper examines the reasons for their successes and failures. Based on the case studies of barrier-free facilities and fire-fighting equipment renovation, it identifies the internal relationship between architecture and facility renovation.At last, this paper sums up the social and technical factors that affect the renovation and redevelopment of existing city buildings and comes up with some specific suggestions and conceptions.
