The steel structure dwelling houses have the advantages as good performance under seismic action, fast construction and can be recycled. It meets the necessity of the housing industrialization and the requirement of the sustainable development. Growing with Chinese steel production, and maturity technology in steel designing and installation, the development of steel structure dwelling houses will be a new proposition in the process of housing industrialization in our country. At present, local building industry actively involved in the study and project practice, and some construction experiences and research achievements have been gained, however, a large number of problems which limit the development of steel structure dwelling houses also been found.In this paper, high-rise steel structure dwelling houses were studied. Through the collection of data, analysis and comparison, the design of living examples, discuss the problems existed in the current steel structure dwelling houses, and put forward feasible solutions for specific examples, in this way to provide a reference for the future design.Major works and research achievements in this paper are summarized as follows:Firstly, based on a lot of reading of information related to the steel structure dwelling houses in our country, summarize the situation of the construction of high-rise steel structure dwelling houses in our country and the advantages and disadvantages of common structural system. The specific problems that hinder the development of steel structure dwelling houses in our country are discussed deeply, after researching the engineer field and analyzing the designing information.Secondly, present a structural design of two typical steel structure dwelling houses, namely the representative of the small high-rise and the representative of the high-rise. The design of house type, the choice of structural system and the use of envelop system are included. Pay attention to the close cooperation of architecture and structure during the process of design, find out the most appropriate house type and structural arrangement, discuss the solution of current problems existed in the steel structure dwelling houses, and provide a reference for the future design.The author also analyzes the multiple economic performance of the design. It is shown that compared with reinforced concrete structure dwelling houses, steel structure dwelling houses have a higher cost, but this structure style can provide integrative and long-term benefits, such as lighter weight, shorter construction time and larger usable area.Finally, in summing up this paper, the further study of this area is posed out.
