Smart grid which is environmentally friendly and energy saving is the directionof modern power grid. As a part of the smart grid, smart substation is worthresearching and significant to the development of smart grid. Based on IEC61850protocol, this paper described the characteristics of smart substation and designedthe structure. On the basis of structural characteristics of smart substation, deviceson the logical level were described and analyzed in the development of smartdirection. Smart current transformers and voltage transformers were mainlyresearched. This paper researched the standardization configuration of the smartequipmenton on station control layer, interval layer and process layer combinedwith the logic features of smart substation automation system. Smart substationrelay protection configuration principles, line protection, bus protection, andtransformer protection of220kV,110kV systems were designed. Data center whichis based on full station information and fault recorder body model of object-orientedfault recorded wave analysis platform were constructed. Combined with currentapplications of smart substation, this paper carefully analyszed the characteristicsand advantages of smart substation in smart control, smart alarm, integratedmonitoring and secondary circuit online monitoring.
