Nowadays,with the increasing shortage of traditional energy and the environment problem growing worse, strong smart grid has become the goal of the global grid. As the key point of the smart grid, smart substation is the direction of future substation which can realize the transfer and distribution of electricity. Relay protection is the first defense of the power system and it is undergoing a change featured by digital protection in the background of smart substation construction. As one of the projects in "Hebei South Grid'11th five-year plan' electric power development and prospective target in 2020",Shijiazhuang Zhengding Xinchengpu 110 kV smart substation has been put in construction and the relay protection configuration of the substation is analyzed in this dissertation.The main works of this dissertation are as follows:(1) The basic concept of the smart substation is described and the design principle of the smart substation has been summarized. The architecture of the smart substation is analyzed and technical features and advantages of the smart substation are summarized.(2) The key factors affecting the relay configuration of the smart substation such as the IEC 61850 standard, the electronic instrument transformer, intelligent primary equipment and so on has been analyzed. Features of the smart substation in sampling mode, tripping mode, secondary circuit and so on are summarized.(3) The relay protection configuration of Shijiazhaung Zhengding Xinchengpu110 kV smart substation is designed according to its general profile.This dissertation has a certain guiding value as it designs relay protection configuration for a practical substation under construction.
