Because of the rapid development of modern comprehensive mechanized coal mining technology, the coal production increases significantly. The belt conveyor is the key instrument to transport the coal and the waste rock. The belt should be changed regularly for safety. Mostly, the belt exchange is artificial. It is time-consuming, and has security risks. A high-speed belt exchange device was designed in this paper. Using this device, the continuous synchronization of pulling down the old belt and installing the new belt can be achieved. This device is easy to operate. Meanwhile, it is efficient and safe.Several belt exchange schemes were compared under the same conditions in this article and the optimal schemes was chosen. Then the mechanical part, the hydraulic control part, and the electric control part were described in detail. Further the device was analyzed for feasibility. The square frame, the belt transportation mechanism and the belt clotting mechanism were designed in detail. The working principle of the electric control part and hydraulic part were introduced. And the modeling and simulation of the hydraulic part was completed with the AMEsim Software. With the analysis of the dynamic characteristics, the feasibility of the hydraulic part was illustrated. The modeling and assembly of the high-speed belt exchange device were achieved with SolidWorks. The finite element of the support base and the track frame was analyzed with ANSYS. According to the finite element analysis result, the support base was optimized. Under the premise of ensuring strength, the cost of production is decreased using the optimized base.The track frame and the traction cylinder are the core components for down the old belt and installing the new belt. The kinematics simulation analysis of the stepping car, which loads with the track frame and the traction cylinder, was completed with ADAMS. According to the parameter curves such as the force curve, the displacement curve, and so on, the problems of the stepping car was found and optimized. Thus the stability and reliability of the belt exchange device is guaranteed.After theory verification, the high-speed belt exchange device was tested in a colliery which is located in Shanxi Province. The process of the test was introduced in the paper. The experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of this device.Using this high-speed belt exchange device, the time of changing belts is shortened, and the human resource is saved. Meanwhile the device miniaturization and the operation safety are implemented. This device is useful to improve coal production with safety.
