Electric bus, as new sustainable energy public transport, have been defined as a new trend for development of public transport in future years. Charging station is a crucial infrastructure which can provide service for electric buses recharging. Nowadays, deficiency of charging infrastructures has been a bottleneck for development of electric buses in some areas. Charging Station performance, including operation efficiency, service quality and convenience, will be directly determined by its location and construction scale. Therefore, it is essential to assign charging stations of electric buses in a scientific way.This paper reviewed recent development of charging station for electric buses and characteristics of bus fleet operation. Regarding to existed problems in charging station planning, this study analyzed how to deploy electric bus charging station in a research area systematically.To begin with, suitability analysis was tested on different charging mode according to bus trip characteristics. It can evaluate efficient construction mode for electric bus charging stations in various scenario.Secondly, this paper identified the impact factors of construction scale for electric bus charging station. Based on bus operation mode and bus schedule, a computational model was established by charging station parameters of single-line and multiple-line bus operation. In addition, according to the definition of construction level for charging station and major parameters for this model, this paper conducted research further on methods of charging station construction level.Furthermore, methodology for locating charging station of electric buses was established by previous research. In a qualitative perspectives, candidate location for bus charging can be identified by principles of electric bus and charging station construction standards. In a quantitative way, this study developed a location model for multi-level charging station. And the model formula built minimum annual average total cost in the future planning year based on target planning theory. This formula model adopted Tabu search, which can calculate construction location and construction level for charging stations, and assigning charging station for each battery electric bus line. Finally, this paper took west central district in Beijing as a case-study example, which analyzed location of bus charging station in the area and evaluated the change of technical condition that impact on location of charging station.
