Distribution network is the final step of the power system to the user. As the endof the power grid directly associated with the user, the impact of supply reliabilityand power quality are the most direct. Therefore, the distribution network is not onlyan important part of the power system, but also a direct reflection of the reliability ofthe power system. The voltage quality of the users and reducing the network lossesbecome the top issue of the power supply department. Reactive power optimization isan important means to solve this problem. Sensitivity analysis method is applied inthis paper. The most sensitive nodes are selected as the candidates for reactive powercompensation point. The tabu algorithm is used to determine the capacity of reactivepower compensation.Due to the lack of effective voltage monitoring system, some problems areexisted in the distribution network such as unsatisfied the configuration requirements,over filled or under filled and other issues. So the voltage qualified rate and powerlosses have great gap compared with the developed countries. To solve this problem,this paper designs the voltage monitoring system based on GPRS. Monitoring voltageof the grid real-time and online is achieved. Directions are provided for reactivepower optimization. The configuration of compensation device is reasonable, makingit more purposeful and focused. It not only solves inefficiencies of the traditionalvoltage detection means, but also lays a solid foundation for reducing losses andimproving voltage qualification rate of the voltage monitoring points.In this paper, sensitivity analysis and nested tabu search are used to improve thetraditional tabu search algorithm. The efficient search of global optimal solution isachieved. Sensitivity analysis method is used to determine the installation position ofthe capacitor. It can not only generate the initial test solution to solve the strongdependence on the initial solution of the tabu search algorithm, but also can reducethe search space and improve the quality of neighborhood test solution. By full loadoperation of the IEEE33node distribution system, the active power loss, the nodevoltage per unit and the objective function are contrasted before and after the reactivepower compensation. It proves that we can get a better effect by installingcompensation capacitor in the heavier load node. The result reflects the principle of"compensation on the spot".
