With the development of high technology and machining technology, therequirements of mechanical components in Aerospace, Automobile and PrecisionManufacturing are becoming higher. All of the high efficiency, high precision andhigh surface quality of the spindle ensure the ability of these machine tools. Therefore, the study and research of high speed and high precision spindles has a tremendoussignificance in enhancing the standard in China’s manufacturing industry. The spindle system based on hybrid bearing is studied in this paper, and somesimulation and validation experiments are conducted to discuss and compare thedifferent properties of the spindle system in variable situations. As for simulation, the flow field model of the fore bearing is built by Fluent andICEM, and simulated with viscosity–temperature model and cavitation included. Thedynamic pressure, the capacity and temperature curves are plotted in order to compareand analyze the influence of diverse parameters on the performance of the shaft. Andall these illuminate the relationship between different parameters and the capacity andtemperature rise of the spindle. As for the experiments in the paper:(1)several rotation error measuring andseparation methods are systematically compared in order to choose a better way todemonstrate the experiments. A single point indirection method is selected to finishthe experiments and which shows the rotary radial and axis error is3.80μm and0.44μm separately;(2)A lever loading system is selected after careful comparison, andby using this device the static stiffness of the spindle under variable parameters isacquired. The result indicates that under2MPa supply oil pressure and lowtransformation of spindle, the static stiffness is almost80N/μm, and based on thatsome measurements are proposed to improve the stiffness of the spindle;(3)Thetemperature rise of the spindle is tested, which is lubricated by bearing oil and waterbased lubricant separately. Several measures are proposed to lower temperature rise.Through this study, the results can not only offer experience in spindle design, manufacturing and assembling, but also in the measurement of rotation error, stiffnessand temperature rise of the spindle.
