The current global environment and energy issues are getting worse, while thebattery electric vehicle (BEV), as one of the representative of new energy vehicles,has been an important direction of new traffic tools. Several problems which restrictthe development of battery electric vehicle technology are battery and chargingtechnology, vehicle optimal control technology, and regenerative braking technology.Vehicle control unit (VCU) is the base of realizing pure electric vehicle optimalcontrol and regenerative braking, so this paper focus on the function demand of VCU,give out the hardware system design of VCU and solution of regenerative braking.Firstly, the paper gives the brief introduction of current situation of foreign anddomestic battery electric vehicle control technology. Secondly, based on the structureand function demand of BEV, make detailed analysis on design requirement of eachfunction module of VCU. Then according to the design requirement of each module,give the detailed design of hardware system, including minimal system of MCU,power module, communication module, signal acquisition module, external storagemodule and power driving module. Based on the full analysis of existing regenerativebraking methods, taking physical conditions into consideration, the paper completethe design and basic realization of regenerative braking algorithm. Finally, set up theCAN network of BEV’ power system, and finish bench test of VCU.The test results show that each hardware system module of VCU can work stablyand meet the basic requirement of VCU, the VCU with the proposed regenerativebraking method can achieve energy recovery efficiently, and in the whole testingcycle the VCU shows good stability and high efficiency.
