Power supply reliability is one of the main components of electric power reliabilitymanagement and represents the capability of power supplying for consumers. It also reflectswhether the power industries can meet the need of power demand of the development ofnational economy. Power supply reliability is usually used to indicate the quality andmanagement level of power system planning, designing, equipment selecting, production andoperation and power supply service. As the economy of society, social functions, and culturallife further develop, the consumers raise higher requirement of power supply reliability. It isobvious that the research and enhancement of reliability of distribution network will play aimportant role on the whole power system reliability project.Guangzhou, lied on the Pearl River Delta of China, has become the economic, politicaland cultural center in Southern China. With the huge population and the booming industry, thedemand of power is gigantic, which requires that the distribution network should haveadequate reliability. In contrast, the current distribution network has seriously limited thepromotion of reliability.This paper, therefor, investigates the reliability theory and the reliability predictionconsidering the factors of the distribution network infrastructure and equipment selection. Italso studies the general conditions of Guangzhou distribution network, the classification offaults and pre-arrangement and the scenarios of equipment outage in order to identifyvulnerable spots. Through the investigations of10kV distribution network connection pattern,some typical methods are summarized. Finally, it combines with advanced experience fromvarious power companies and proposes the reliabilityobjective and promotion measures forGuangzhou distribution network.
