With the continually rising of raw materials, labors and other production costs,facing the pressure for delivery at the same time, company S need to decrease the costof production and shorten the cycle of production; A good facility layout is not onlyhelpful to decrease the logistical cost and shorten production cycle, but also helpful tospeed up the production process. In addition, company S was carrying out the leanproduction. Therefore a facility layout which is corresponding with production modehas been vital for production of company. This paper systematically integrated systemlayout planning and manufacturing cell design for the production characteristics of Scompany, targeted and scientifically to the optimization design of A workshop facilitylayout.In order to solve the existed problem about current facility layout of A workshopat company S, this paper did the improvement study of workshop facility layout withindustrial engineering theories especially the basic principle, theory and methods ofthe facility layout design. This paper was based on the research idea of finding,analyzing and solving problem. Firstly, this paper summarized the theory andimplement study of multi-varieties and small batch production mode, facility layoutand cell manufacturing. Secondly, this paper described and analyzed the currentsituation of A workshop separately from workshop layout and production methodscombined with problems of workshop, then promoted advice about optimization of Aworkshop facility layout. Thirdly, this paper promoted a facility layout method whichwas based on combined the system layout planning with manufacturing cell design forthe production mode of multi-varieties and small batch, and designed three initialfacility layout programs by using the improved system layout planning method.Moreover, this paper evaluated three initial programs with cost comparison methodwhich is a quantitative method and comprehensive evaluation method based on graycorrelation which is a quantitative and qualitative method separately, and chose thebest program. Last but not least, this paper analyzed the direct and indirect benefits ofimplement of facility layout optimization program. The improved system layout planning turns out to be practicable and efficient in this paper, thus it is not only theinstruction for facility layout of other workshops of the company, but also is helpfulfor the facility layout optimization of other multi-varieties and small batch productioncompanies.
